Community Publishing with Better Beginnings

Stories written by children for children are important. Creating Books in Communities encourages families to engage with books and stories by creating their own.

Better Beginnings has been working with communities and children to capture their stories about their homes, families, pets and communities.  So far, we have published four books in partnerships with different communities throughout Western Australia. Learn more about our Creating Books in Communities program, and look out for the Book Cubby at a library or event near you.

Books-To-Go in the Book Cubby

Books-To-Go is for children and families. It is all about learning to make (and publish) a book. Using one piece of paper and a few simple folds, you can create your own 8 page book without having to stick or staple.  Every child can be an author - you can write and illustrate your very own stories. The books are published on the spot using a colour photocopier. The author gets to keep  their original, and a copy travels in the Book Cubby to other communities for other children to read, enjoy and be inspired by.
