This is karaoke at the Waterford.
I have just turned eighteen.
I am at the height of my coolness.
I run backwards all the way up the street watching the dog get closer and closer.
Behind the dog is the man with the moustache and now he has a fish in his hands.
I can't explain why I'm so attracted to this life of pseudo-piracy.
I've never had the desire to cut anyone's throat - even metaphorically speaking. Heck, I don't even drink.
These three stories first appeared in The Kid on the Karaoke Stage & Other Stories edited by Georgia Richter (Fremantle Press 2011). The full print edition is available from Fremantle Press, (08) 94306331.
The audio edition in CD and MP3 formats can be purchased from The Association for The Blindof WA, contact Sue Murray (08) 93118273.
