Kindergarten Program - Information for Teachers

Every school in WA is eligible to participate in the Better Beginnings Kindergarten program. Through this program, each kindergarten student at your school will receive a free reading pack.

The reading packs are a high-quality literacy resource for WA families, which promote the value of reading together every day. They are produced by the award-winning Better Beginnings program and include a beautiful Australian picture book. Each reading pack also includes a literacy game which is related to the book, and information for parents about how they can support their child’s literacy development at home.

Your students will receive one of these books:
Stuck! by Charlotte Calder and Mark Jackson
All Monkeys Love Bananas by Sean E Avery
Scary Night by Lesley Gibbes and Stephen Michael King

A comprehensive Teachers Guide is available for download on the Better Beginnings website.

All you need to do to receive the free reading packs for your kindergarten students is to enter the number of kindy students enrolled at your school via the Better Beginnings portal. You will need to create a login to access this site, if you don’t already have one. The packs will be provided to your school via your local public library. You can view your library’s details when you are logged in to the portal.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Better Beginnings team if you have any questions, or if you need assistance with registering your school.

The kindergarten reading packs are free due to generous financial contributions by your local government, the WA State Government, and Rio Tinto.
