What is Better Beginnings for Kindergarten and PrePrimary Children?

Better Beginnings for Kindergarten and PrePrimary is a state-wide program which aims to support and involve parents in their children's early literacy learning by providing free books and reading packs to every four and five year old in WA. An initiative of the State Library of Western Australia, the program is delivered through local libraries and funded by the State Government of Western Australia, Royalties for Regions, Western Australian Local Governments and Rio Tinto. There is no cost for your school to be involved in the program.

How is the program delivered?

Better Beginnings is delivered to schools by public libraries throughout WA. Your local library will be in contact with you after your school has registered for the program. Alternatively you can contact your local library.

How do I register my school?

Registration is quick and easy to do:

  1. Logon to the Practitioner's Portal and follow the prompt. (If you don't have a practitioner's login, complete the form and you will receive an email confirmation of your registration.)
  2. Complete your school's information by adding or updating contact details, kindergarten and pre-primary enrolment numbers, and any other details as required.
  3. Once registered, you will receive an email confirmation advising that your local library will be in contact with you about the program.
