Your preschooler is growing fast! From those busy toddler years to being almost ready for school, it’s an exciting time full of reading, talking, singing, drawing, playing and learning. At this age, children are curious about everything and often eager to share their day with you. Ask lots of open questions like, “What was the most fun thing you did today?” or “What games did you play?” Keeping the conversation going helps build strong language and communication skills.

Reading, talking, singing, drawing and playing together every day makes a big difference. Sing songs loudly and proudly while getting dressed, making breakfast, playing outside or splashing in the bath. Singing supports language development and is a fun way to learn together. Reading aloud helps children discover new words, sparks their imagination and builds a love of stories. Read a book, talk about pictures, or read signs and labels when you are out and about. You can also invite your child to “read” to you by describing the pictures and colours they see.
